They are slimmer and firmer than Medjool dates, with a delicate honey like sweetness and a golden, slightly translucent colour. Choose Deglet Nour dates when you want a date that holds its shape. Their firmer texture makes them easy to chop and less sticky to work with, so they are ideal in cooking. For a soft, rich date to eat on its own, try our Medjool dates; for everyday baking at the lowest price per kilo, our pitted dates are the best value.
How to use Deglet Nour dates
Chop them into porridge, muesli and homemade granola, stir them through couscous and tagines, or add them to salads with nuts and cheese. They are traditional in many Ramadan dishes, from rice to slow cooked stews, and they bake well in flapjacks, date loaves and cookies. A handful with a few nuts makes a simple, filling snack.
Storing Deglet Nour dates
